Joseph leads Geotechnical Testing Laboratory as Senior Laboratory Director at Alpine. Joseph holds Ph.D. and master degrees in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Missouri - Columbia. He has worked as a Geotechnical Laboratory Testing Director and oversees the operations of the Laboratory Testing for more than 16 years. Before working at Alpine, Joseph founded several other advanced Geotechnical Testing Laboratories in Central Texas. Joseph is active at ASTM, AASHTO, and ASCE committees and conferences. He is also volunteering as a peer reviewer for numerous journals, and several committee positions for improving the testing standards or specifications.
His responsibilities include supervising, training and monitoring technicians and laboratory workers. Joseph monitors projects’ scheduling, quality control, equipment management, and compliance & accreditations. Joseph’s work involves measuring soil engineering properties through performance of numerous laboratory tests, including both basic index property tests and high-end geotechnical tests such as advanced triaxial compression/ extension, direct simple shear, 1-D incremental (ILT), constant-rate-of-strain (CRS) consolidation tests, and evaluation of shear strength behavior using the SHANSEP method that provides stress history and undrain strength profile according to the imposed field conditions. Joseph is also responsible for all associated data reduction, analyses, and formal report generation. He is an effective director leading the lab team members to provide quality services and achieve a high level of testing accuracy, thereby contributing to a well-engineered project. Read more...
Thuy is an operation manager at Alpine. She has worked as a senior laboratory technician and team leader in the Geotechnical Testing Laboratories since early 2010’s. Thuy has mastered the advanced testing equipment and is passionate about innovating and customizing testing modules to meet clients’ needs. During the past decade, her work has focused on the advanced Geotechnical lab testing, i.e. CU (or multi-stage) triaxial compression, 1-D/ CRS consolidation, swell/ collapse tests, and hydraulic conductivity for landfill projects. She has performed many testing methods for conducting and supervising various traditional Geotechnical engineering investigation projects, including highway projects, high-end private facilities, industrial facilities, dams and roadways for local, counties, cities, states, and federal projects. Thuy is responsible for mentoring and training of entry and junior professional lab staff/ technicians for traditional Geotechnical lab testing. She is certified Soil SB 101 by Hot Mix Asphalt Center.
Caleb is a general manager at Alpine. He has worked as a senior technician, carpenter and mechanic for more than 16 years. He is very talented on taking complex technical ideas/challenges and transforming them into user-friendly solutions for other technicians. Caleb also evaluates test equipment potential by assessing compatibility of new software with existing programs. He uses 3-D printers to produce customized parts for laboratory equipment to optimize machine set up and use. Caleb’s work has focused on Aggregate testing, Rock Mechanics testing, Proctors, CBR, analytical testing, direct shear, 1-D/ CRS consolidation, swell/ collapse, and CU/ CD triaxial compression and extension tests. He constantly supports traditional and advanced Geotechnical lab testing with trained laboratory staffs, maintains testing equipment, and assists daily/annual calibration records. He is certified Level 1A Plant Mix Specialist, AGG 101 Aggregate Specialist, SB103 Materials Analysis Specialist, SB201 Strength Specialist, and SB202 Compressive Strength Specialist by Hot Mix Asphalt Center.
